tfield, as the former couple attempts to establish a new way forward for their family.

The medical crisis becomes the catalyst for another deeply personal journey. As Joy fights for her son, she begins recognizing how much of herself she has surrendered over the years.

The film raises an important question: What happens when the person who has always cared for everyone else finally needs someone to care for her?

A Story About More Than Survival

At its heart, One Last Shot examines the emotional complexities surrounding caregiving, motherhood and the expectation that women remain strong regardless of what they are carrying.

Joy’s journey is not simply about surviving tragedy. It becomes an exploration of rediscovering herself beyond the roles she has traditionally occupied.

Among the themes audiences can expect are:

  • Motherhood and sacrifice as Joy fights for her son’s health while confronting her own emotional needs.
  • Identity and self-discovery, particularly for women who have spent much of their lives prioritizing others.
  • Family reconciliation as Joy and Royce find themselves working together during an unimaginable crisis.
  • Community and faith, showing the importance of support when personal strength alone is no longer enough.
  • Resilience through vulnerability, challenging the idea that being strong means carrying every burden alone.

Campbell Expands Her Creative Voice

Campbell’s involvement behind the camera gives One Last Shot another important dimension. In addition to portraying Joy, she co-wrote the screenplay with Dani Wright and serves as an executive producer.

The film is directed by Erica Sutherlin, whose credits include Kirk Franklin’s A Gospel Christmas.

One Last Shot is produced by FOX Entertainment Studios, with Adam Shepard, Larry Grimaldi, Hannah Pillemer and Fernando Szew serving as executive producers for the studio. Mychael G. Chinn and Campbell also executive produce, with Wright serving as co-executive producer. FOX Entertainment Global will handle international distribution.

One Woman’s Journey Back to Herself

For longtime audiences who have watched Campbell move effortlessly between comedy and drama, One Last Shot offers another opportunity to experience the range of an entertainer whose career has crossed generations.

More importantly, the movie presents a story many women may recognize: the woman who becomes everyone’s dependable person while quietly losing sight of herself.

Through Joy Walker, One Last Shot suggests that reclaiming yourself is not selfish. Sometimes finding the strength to care for yourself may ultimately make it possible to continue caring for the people you love.
