BETX Fan Fest Day One: A Celebration of Black Culture and Community

BETX Fan Fest Day One

On Friday, June 28, the Goddess Couture News team dropped in on the BETX Fan Fest Day One at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This two-day festival celebrates Black culture with a variety of activities, panels, style and beauty offerings, musical performances, food, shopping, BET+ screenings, sports, and much more. Here’s a detailed look at our experience and some of the highlights from the event.

A Relaxed Yet Vibrant Atmosphere

The atmosphere was relaxed yet buzzing with excitement. Men and women of all ages were present, enjoying the diverse range of activities. The event was well-organized, allowing attendees to seamlessly transition from one experience to another.

Highlights from Day One

  • Roller Skating Rink: One of the standout features was the roller skating rink. It was heartwarming to see people of all ages, from 18 to 40, gliding around with smiles on their faces. The rink added a nostalgic yet energetic vibe to the convention center.
  • Musical Performances: Various artists performed on different stages throughout the day. Each performance brought a unique energy, keeping the audience entertained and engaged. The lineup was diverse, catering to different musical tastes.
  • Tyler Perry’s Sistas Lounge: This was a favorite among our team. The lounge was adorned with floral arrangements and green grass, creating a serene atmosphere. Women flocked to this area to get their hair done, relax on comfortable couches, and take photos. It was a popular spot for those looking to pamper themselves and enjoy some downtime.
  • DOVE Crown Photo Opp: This section was beautifully set up for photo opportunities. While we noted that it would have been even better with samples of DOVE skincare products, it still attracted many women who wanted to capture a memorable moment.
  • All The Queen’s Men Lounge: Another fun and interactive section was the “All The Queen’s Men” lounge. It featured a club-life experience with fake money being thrown around, mimicking scenes from the hit TV series. This area was particularly popular for its playful and immersive environment.
  • Black Voices Lounge: This lounge was another hotspot, offering a stylish and cozy setting for attendees to relax and take photos.

Outdoor Activities and Food Court

The outdoor component of the BET Experience added to the festival’s charm. Food trucks and dessert places lined the area, providing a variety of delicious options. One of our favorites was Southern Girl Desserts, known for their fabulous cupcakes. The pop-up shop vendors offered everything from jewelry and crystals to T-shirts and hair products.

However, we did feel that the outdoor area could have benefited from a more extensive lounge setting. Additionally, the absence of water stations was noticeable. We hope that next year, a water partner will be included to ensure attendees stay hydrated, especially during hot days.

Interactive Sections and Celebrity Sightings

  • Photo Sections: The event featured several photo sections perfect for TikTok and Instagram influencers. These areas were beautifully designed, providing excellent backdrops for social media content.
  • Basketball Section: The basketball section was a hit, with celebrities and hip-hop artists playing against each other. It was a lively and engaging part of the festival, drawing large crowds.

Overall Impression

The BETX Fan Fest Day One was a fantastic experience, especially for young adults aged 18 to 36. The event was well-suited for college students and social media influencers, offering numerous opportunities to create and share content. While there were minor areas for improvement, such as the addition of water stations and more outdoor lounging options, the overall event was a huge success.

If you’re looking to enjoy a day filled with Black culture, music, style, and beauty, the BETX Fan Fest is the place to be. You might even stumble across a celebrity or two if you’re lucky!
