Kimi Rhochelle Porter: From Global Publicist to Brand Strategist, Author and Storyteller

For more than two decades, Kimi Rhochelle Porter has worked behind the scenes helping entertainers, businesses, executives and cultural organizations shape their stories. Today, the global publicist, brand strategist, entrepreneur and founder of KRPR Media Group is entering another chapter—one that puts her own story at the center.

During a conversation on Queen Talk, hosted by Goddess Couture News, KimiRhochelle’s journey offers a timely look at the evolution of public relations, branding and entrepreneurship, while also opening the door to a more personal conversation surrounding her memoir, If I Could Only Tell!

More Than 20 Years in Public Relations

Kimi Rhochelle founded KRPR Media Group in 2002, building a career encompassing entertainment publicity, film, live events, talent relations, media strategy, tours, red carpets and international projects.

Her professional background includes more than 100 launches and campaigns and media placements across outlets including CNN, BET, FOX, CBS, People, Ebony, Essence and Rolling Stone. Her résumé also includes 14 years as National Public Relations Director for the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, where she led national media strategy, press events and talent engagement.

Her experience illustrates how modern publicity extends beyond securing media coverage. Today’s publicists are increasingly expected to understand a client’s complete brand—from positioning and messaging to reputation, digital presence and long-term business strategy.

When Public Relations Meets Brand Strategy

One of the central questions explored during Queen Talk is: Why are publicists becoming brand strategists?

For KimiRhochelle, her career reflects that evolution. Her work has required her to manage not only publicity but also narrative development, brand positioning, events, production logistics, executive relationships and high-stakes communications.

Her résumé also demonstrates the scale of those responsibilities. She reports managing campaign-cycle production budgets typically ranging from $2 million to $5 million and leading cross-functional teams of up to 25 professionals.

Her career has also taken her internationally, with operational experience across Germany, Honduras, Mexico and Barbados.

Behind the Success Is a Personal Story

Now Kimi Rhochelle is turning the lens inward with If I Could Only Tell!

The memoir takes readers behind the curtain of entertainment, entrepreneurship, public relations and life, examining how public success can coexist with private struggles. The book addresses heartbreak, loss, healing, starting over and finding the courage to tell stories that may have remained unspoken for years.

After spending years helping other people communicate their stories, KimiRhochelle says she wrote the memoir because she had something of her own to say—something she believed another person might need to hear. She particularly speaks to people over 50 who may wonder whether it is too late to begin again.

The 100: Turning a Book Into an Experience

KimiRhochelle has also approached the memoir as a brand experience.

For the book’s special collector initiative, The 100, early supporters were offered personally signed books with individually numbered certificates of authenticity. Rather than simply mailing a book, she created an experience around receiving it, with presale supporters receiving numbers beginning with #001.

That approach connects her two worlds: storytelling and brand strategy.

Four Takeaways From KimiRhochelle’s Journey

  • Public relations is evolving. Successful publicity increasingly intersects with branding, storytelling and business strategy.
  • Experience can become a second act. More than 20 years into her career, KimiRhochelle continues expanding into new creative and entrepreneurial territory.
  • Your personal story has value. If I Could Only Tell! encourages readers to recognize that struggles, victories and lessons can all become part of their legacy.
  • Starting over has no age limit. Her message particularly speaks to women and adults 50+ who may be considering their next chapter.

Her Story. Her Business. Her Power.

KimiRhochelle Porter’s Queen Talk conversation brings together the professional and personal sides of a woman accustomed to working behind the scenes. After decades of helping others develop narratives and command attention, she is now sharing her own.

And perhaps that is the next evolution of her brand: not simply helping other people tell powerful stories, but recognizing the power in finally telling hers.
