The 22nd Annual Salute to Black Women Business Conference, Vendor Faire & Awards Luncheon, hosted by the Black Business Association (BBA) at the Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles, was an inspiring celebration of excellence, resilience, and the unstoppable force of Black women in leadership. This year’s theme, “Moving Forward Together: Women Educating and Inspiring Generations,” served as the guiding spirit of a day brimming with power, purpose, and pure joy.
From the very start, the energy was palpable. As attendees entered the elegant Sheraton Gateway, they were greeted by the sights and sounds of a community gathering to honor the brilliance of Black women business leaders. The atmosphere was electric, blending camaraderie, empowerment, and purpose into a celebration that transcended business and became a cultural movement.
Morning: Vendor Faire and Leadership Empowerment
The day kicked off with a vibrant Vendor Faire, showcasing a diverse array of Black-owned businesses. Guests explored a wide range of offerings, from wellness and fashion to technology and financial services. The Vendor Faire highlighted not just the entrepreneurial spirit but also the innovation and creativity of the Black business community.
Next, guests participated in a series of empowerment-filled workshops designed to inspire and equip women leaders. Key highlights included:

Women’s Leadership Symposium: Hosted in collaboration with the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Los Angeles Chapter, the symposium focused on strategies for leadership development and community uplift.

“Role Models for Success” Youth Forum: Co-hosted by Forgiving For Living, Inc., and Northrop Grumman, this special session empowered young women through stories of success and mentorship from industry leaders.
The workshops left a lasting impact, particularly on the younger attendees, who left feeling motivated and more confident in their leadership potential.
Midday: Awards Luncheon Celebrates Trailblazing Women
The Awards Luncheon was the heart of the event, where stories of triumph and dedication were shared. Mistress of Ceremonies Mitchell Fisher gracefully guided the program, while DJ Jiji Sweet maintained the event’s upbeat and celebratory energy.
The luncheon honored an outstanding group of women who have made significant contributions across various industries. The honorees were celebrated not only for their professional achievements but for their unwavering commitment to community advancement. The esteemed women recognized were:

During her acceptance speech, Michelle Gaskill-Hames touched hearts by saying, “Every time a Black woman steps into leadership, she brings her community with her. We don’t rise alone—we rise together.” Another honoree, Kellie Todd Griffin, emphasized the power of strategic legacy-building, highlighting the importance of collaboration and shared vision.
A Community Celebrating Legacy and Leadership
Throughout the event, BBA President and CEO Earl “Skip” Cooper II reminded attendees of the BBA’s long-standing mission to support Black businesses. He emphasized that the Salute to Black Women is more than just an event—it’s a testament to the ongoing legacy of leadership within the Black community.
The success of the conference was made possible through the generous support of sponsors such as Kaiser, PepsiCo, and LADWP, all of whom are committed to advancing economic equity and community development.
One of the most touching moments occurred when a young woman, after meeting one of the honorees, declared, “Now I know I can be anything.” It was a poignant reminder of why events like this matter—not just for those in attendance but for the next generation of women leaders.
Closing with Connection and Celebration
The day concluded with a Dessert Reception and Vendor Faire Finale, where guests shared stories, exchanged business cards, and reflected on the day’s powerful messages. New connections were formed, and existing friendships strengthened, solidifying the sense of sisterhood that defined the event.
