Alretha Thomas from Tyler Perry’s Assisted Living Shares “It’s Never Too Late” Elevate Your Career

Alretha Thomas

In celebration of National Women’s History Month and in collaboration with the National Women’s History Project’s (NWHP) 2023 theme of “Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories,” the Black Business Association (BBA) presented their 20th annual Salute to Black Women Business Conference, Vendor Faire & Awards Luncheon. As part of the event, SAG/AFTRA actress Alretha Thomas spoke to Dr. Moshe Lewis about her journey in the entertainment industry and her recent success in Tyler Perry’s “Assisted Living.”

Alretha’s story is one of perseverance and determination. After realizing that journalism wasn’t her true passion, she pursued modeling, which eventually led her to acting. Despite early success with a NAACP Theatre Award nomination and guest starring roles in popular soap operas, Alretha decided to take a step back from acting and focus on her personal life while also writing and producing plays and books.

It wasn’t until 2016 that Alretha decided to return to acting, reactivating her SAG membership and landing a talent agent. Since then, she has appeared in several short films, commercials, and television shows, including a featured role in a regional SAG commercial in Pittsburgh. But her biggest break came during the pandemic when she joined the cast of Tyler Perry’s “Assisted Living” as Anastasia Devereaux.

Alretha describes working on the show as a dream come true, getting to work with amazing actors and directors and even meeting Tyler Perry himself. She gives credit to God for her blessed life and career, and hopes to continue to pursue roles in television, movies, and commercials.

Alretha’s story is just one of the many examples of the incredible women who have helped shape our world and tell our stories. As we celebrate National Women’s History Month and the contributions of women everywhere, let us remember and honor those who have fought for gender equality and continue to inspire us with their strength and determination.
