Long Beach’s own Giveon has stolen the hearts of R&B fans everywhere to start the year, and with today’s release of the music video for the acoustic version of “Vanish,” it’s clear he doesn’t intend on letting up. The original “Vanish” track appears on Take Time, the singer-songwriter’s well-received introductory EP, which is now streaming HERE via Epic Records.
Directed by Goldby7, the video brings us to a dimly lit restaurant, where the acoustic video for “Vanish” finds our protagonist, as the stripped-down, guitar-only version of the outro to Take Time plays. In sync with the pleading nature of the song itself, Giveon tries convincingly to get through to a lady friend, reminding her, “You see what I mean? Saying things you don’t mean to the one that means the world to you.”
Much like the previous videos he’s released in promotion of his EP, Giveon manages to communicate the emotional complexity of his work without an elaborate plot—perhaps a testament to the compelling nature of the music itself.
Since bursting into the national consciousness with his scene-stealing appearance on Drake’s “Chicago Freestyle,” Giveon’s music and storytelling has been praised by fans and critics alike. As Billboard puts it, Giveon makes “..has distinguished himself with his plumed vocals, gutsy outlook on romance, and untapped potential as an A-list songwriter”
With an early top 15 chart performance on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Chicago Freestyle” and fanfare that’s growing exponentially by the month, Giveon has set the stage for his proper, full-length arrival to be an unforgettable one.
ABOUT GIVEON
GIVEON infuses Rat Pack-style classiness into modern R&B. Developing his own baritone delivery, he caught the attention of another Long Beach local and multiplatinum singer and songwriter AUGUST 08 [DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber] who served as an initial mentor. In 2018, GIVEON independently made his debut with “Garden Kisses” and “Fields,” clocking two million streams so far. At the same time, he earned acclaim by everyone from Flaunt to HotNewHipHop. A year later, he joined forces with producer Sevn Thomas [Drake, Rihanna, Travis Scott] and further honed a signature style of his own. In 2019, he also performed “Giveon Unplugged” to a packed crowd at Soho House in addition to leading a songwriting camp sponsored by Remy Martin and Asics alongside top producers and songwriters such as boi-1da, Jahaan Sweet, Sevn Thomas, WondaGurl, Charlie Handsome, and more. Snoh Aalegra personally invited him on her headline tour. Now, he uncovers his debut EP for Epic Records, Take Time.
